Power of the Positive Woman

I thought that Phyllis Schlafly's article, "Power of the Positive Woman" was very intriguing. I have never been involved much in the issues of feminism, although I'm definitely all for women's rights. I just know not to take it to such extremes all of the time. Schlafly seemed to be putting down women liberationists and their ideals to create perfect equalities between both sexes. Maybe she wasn't exactly putting them down, but was surely shedding light on the fact that no matter what a woman does, she will never be on an exact equal par as a man. She says, "Despite the claims of the women's liberation movement, there are countless physical differences between men and women." I think it is absurd to think that men and women could be counted physically the same in many cases. Schlafly also mentions, "If sex equality were enforced in porfessional sports, it would mean that men could enter the women's tournaments and win most of the money." There are some negatives that come along with the unrealistic notion of complete equality, which apparently the women's liberationists have not really taken into consideration. Their ideals are looking to be too high, that there is some sort of future possibility of total equality, when realistically that's not possible.

The article brings up this notion of the "Positive Woman" which sounds like a good state of mind to me. Basically, Schlafly says the "Positive Woman" is a realistic thinker, using her female power for the best, and enjoying mostly what the woman has, as opposed to what she should get. The Positive Woman realizes men and women will never be the same physically or emotionally, but that doesn't stop her from being a powerful woman. It looks as if it is a positive position to think about things from. It's beneficial to think logically about issues, and the positive woman is all about that.
